This course provides a multidisciplinary, social science based route to qualification in the health and social care fields. An alternative to clinical training, the emphasis during this course is on the social experiences of health and care, including the policy issues, the delivery and management of services, and the evaluation of evidence. This course aims to provide students with a sound knowledge and understanding of the discipline of Health and Social Care; to acquaint students with the major forms of sociological theorising and methodologies; to develop students’ intellectual skills and spirit of critical inquiry; to develop intellectual and practical skills in the collection, interpretation, and analysis of data and information relating to the organization and conduct of social life; to provide students with a broad and sound appreciation of the range of empirical inquiry and substantive knowledge in the various specialist sub-areas of the discipline of health and social care; to ensure students are aware of the reasons for diversity within the discipline and  understand the value of comparative investigation; to equip students with transferable skills which will assist them in their future employment and careers.
