This degree offers the opportunity to study a wide range of periods with a specialism in Welsh History. This course enables you to understand the evolution of Wales, its politics, society, industry and religion through the centuries, and to place this in the context of developments in British, European and American History from the Middle Ages to the present day. Welsh History part of the course gives you the opportunity to focus in detail on the history of Wales from the earliest times up to the present day, providing you with a sensitivity to a Welsh past that will be all around you during your time at Bangor. Many of the modules that you can take as part of this degree programme will be taught in both English and Welsh. History part of this programme aims to develop your knowledge and understanding of a wide range of human history. It encourages you to take an analytical approach to the past, so that you can understand and contribute to historical controversies, and can understand ways in which the past is at least partly constructed in the present. It therefore hopes to train you intellectually so you can explain the relevance of the past in the present, understand the problems of interpreting written and other evidence, and gain skills of research, analysis, problem-solving, construction of argument and communication.
