Monash UniversityBachelor of Arts in Criminology

专业简介

In Criminology you will study what we know as crime, what causes it, how it is prevented, and the challenges of crime control and justice. This includes the study of policing, criminal law and processes of punishment, including diverse formal and informal practices. Monash Criminology provides a thriving intellectual environment. It is renowned for agenda-setting work on crimes and social harms that impact large numbers of people – including those perpetrated by states and organisations – during war and conflict and in transitional societies. Equipped with critical and innovative thinking and practical skills, you will be able to apply your criminological knowledge to work locally and internationally in limiting crime and harm, actively helping to improve communities and society. Start of expanded content The focus of your early study on understanding crime and criminal justice will provide you with a comprehensive grounding in the current tools, methods and assumptions of criminology. You will then examine offending, victimisation, policing, punishment, and criminal law and practice, in diverse ways. You will encounter these issues as they manifest in ways that impact all of us directly and indirectly: sexual violence, gender violence, human trafficking, homicide law, organised crime, deaths in custody, rehabilitation, imprisonment and post-imprisonment, state and corporate crime, campaigns for justice, terrorism, border policing, the political economy of crime and punishment, and law reform. You will consider these issues from local and individual perspectives, and also at the level of the state and the criminal justice system, developing intercultural perspectives on these matters. Your capacity to understand how communities, and groups within communities think differently about these matters will be enhanced if you take up the opportunity to study abroad, at the Monash Prato Centre in Italy, or take units offered through our exchange partner US universities. Throughout, you'll develop a critical awareness of issues of vital contemporary importance and, more to the point, the up-to-the-minute knowledge and skills to help address them. With the extensive knowledge that Criminology provides, and comprehensive skills in research, argument and expression, you'll be equipped to make a real difference in policing, corrections, rehabilitation, social work, law and many other demanding areas. Contributing to effective and progressive responses to crime, including prevention and rehabilitation, may be your professional future.
