Media and Sociology is a distinctive combined degree which enables you to explore the sociological implications of social media, popular culture, and the mass media, whilst offering opportunities to engage in creative media practice such as film-making and photography. With 24/7 access to facilities and support from an engaged community of academics specialising in cultural studies, sociological and media theory, the degree will enable you to analyse society and contemporary media cultures and to produce critically-informed cultural artefacts of your own. Our teaching is often interdisciplinary and research-led, and we offer a distinctive combination of theory and practice based modules.The Media and Sociology programme enables you to develop as a critical, analytic, and creative thinker, gaining social and communication skills which are useful for a wide range of careers. Our graduates have entered occupations including the creative industries, social care, the health sector, advertising and marketing, the charity sector, youth services, and local government. You might go on to work in broadcasting, the movie industry, journalism, publishing or web design. Alternatively, you might become a public relations executive, a presenter, a researcher, an exhibition designer, an advertising executive or a radio, TV or video producer.
