Design is a crucial factor in engineering-based industries, and most of modern design methods in engineering are computer-based. This MEng degree course combines the fundamentals of Mechanical Engineering with specialist study of Computational Engineering and Engineering Design, focusing on the key relationship between computation procedures and design. In the first two years, you will cement your understanding of core mechanical engineering subjects, mirroring the MEng Mechanical Engineering. At the end of your second year, you will be able to choose modules to specialise your course, or follow an interdisciplinary course. Our diverse range of optional modules include Aircraft Structural Design to Orthopaedic Biomechanics. In your third year, you will carry out an individual research or design project that will stem from a real engineering need and it may be sponsored by industry. During your fourth year you will participate in a group design project with engineering students from across different disciplines. During your studies, you will have the opportunity to spend time on industrial placement. You can do this for either one semester or one year. There are also opportunities for you to work in industry during the summer holidays of your second and third years.
