The programme's objectives are: to give you knowledge of statistical theory and methods at an advanced level; to give you experience of applications of statistical methods; to train you for a career as a statistician; and to enable you to develop oral and written communication skills. The programme is taught through a mixture of lectures, computer workshops, case studies and project work. Assessment is made using examinations, presentations, coursework assignments and a final dissertation. Careers: Statistics enables the type of quantitative reasoning necessary for making important advances in the sciences, such as medicine and genetics, and for making important decisions in business and public policy. As such there is a wide choice of career opportunities for well qualified statisticians, for example in banking/insurance, in the pharmaceutical industry, or in government bodies.
