Become a teacher in science or mathematics The Bachelor of Science/Education is a combined degree for undergraduate students who want to work as high school science or maths teachers. Choosing your study options The dual award of Bachelor of Science/Bachelor of Education is a four-year program for intending secondary school teachers in mathematics or science. As a Science and Education student, you will combine studies in the theoretical and practical aspects of education with your approved teaching discipline, selected from the options below: Mathematics Biology Chemistry Earth and Environmental Science Physics Teaching specialisations Science - degree structure A science Major from your choice of: Anatomy Biology Biotechnology Chemistry Earth Science Ecology Genetics Geography Marine Science Microbiology Molecular and Cell Biology Pathology Pharmacology Physics Physiology At least two courses in Physics or Chemistry At least one course from each of the four science disciplines (Biology, Chemistry, Earth and Environmental Science, Physics) and elective courses Mathematics - degree structure A major sequence in Mathematics for Education and electives A major sequence in Education including core courses, electives and placements Careers The Education program at UNSW prepares graduates to pursue a career in secondary school teaching in New South Wales, Australia and overseas. Other career options include policy development and leadership within schools or supervisory, corporate training, customer relations and managerial roles in a variety of industries. Honours Education students who meet the academic requirements may elect to undertake an Honours program in either their fourth or fifth year of study. The Honours program may be undertaken in either Education or your teaching discipline.
