The Master of Laws by Coursework offers a flexible and specialised opportunity for law and non-law graduates to develop an advanced, integrated and contemporary understanding of one or more areas of legal study, some of which call for cross-disciplinary perspectives, depending entirely on the student's areas of interests. Courses offered in the LLM by Coursework program combine a degree of sophistication or technical difficulty in terms of legal content with a substantial consideration of relevant international, professional and cross-disciplinary aspects of the subject matter. By undertaking eight of the many, varied courses on offer, all students will have the opportunity to apply their legal knowledge and skills by undertaking at least one substantial, research-based project.
Students must complete at least 4 courses (24 uoc) from the following lists to obtain a specialisation in Environmental Law and Sustainable Development in the Master of Laws.
When a student completes the Master of Laws which incorporates a specialisation, the student's academic transcript and Testamur will identify the specialisation and will contain the words 'Master of Laws in [the specialisation completed]' or words to that effect.

English Language Requirements: IELTS Academic: 6.5 overall (min. 6.0 in each subtest); TOEFL Internet-based Test (iBT): 90 overall (min. 23 in writing, 22 in reading, listening and speaking); TOEFL - Paper-based Test (PBT) 577 overall (min. 5.0 in TWE); Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic - 64 overall (min. 54 in each subtest); Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE) - 180 overall (min.180 in each subtest; Cambridge Certificate in Advanced English (CAE) - 176 overall (min.169 in each subtest).

A candidate for the Master of Laws by Coursework shall have been previously awarded any of the following:
(1) a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree from UNSW Sydney or a qualification considered equivalent from another university or tertiary institution;
(2) a Bachelor of Laws degree with a credit average, from UNSW Sydney or a qualification considered equivalent from another university or tertiary institution;
(3) a Juris Doctor degree, with a credit average, from UNSW Sydney or a qualification considered equivalent from another university or tertiary institution;
(4) a Bachelor degree in Social Sciences or Humanities, with a credit average, from UNSW Sydney or a qualification considered equivalent from another university or tertiary institution;
(5) a Juris Doctor degree or a Bachelor degree in Laws, Social Sciences or Humanities from UNSW Sydney or a qualification considered equivalent from another university or tertiary institution with a minimum of two years' relevant professional experience;
(6) a Bachelor degree from UNSW Sydney, with a credit average, or a qualification considered equivalent from another university or tertiary institution and a minimum of two years' relevant professional experience.
