The duration of the Diploma of Accounting is typically six months (full-time). However, students completing the Certificate IV ( D) in Accounting prior to the diploma qualification would normally take one year to complete both qualifications. The course provides training in accounting procedures to assist senior accountants or undertake duties requiring the services of a professional accountant. Students will gain broad-based skills and knowledge in accounting specialisations, including corporate financial accounting, financial management, cost and management accounting, accounting systems and internal controls, and taxation. The diploma consists of a minimum of nine units and students will typically attend classes at least four days per week with approximately 20 to 25 hours of class participation. The course includes lectures, classroom based teaching, practical demonstrations, self-paced learning, class discussions and field trips. Assessment includes periodic tests, assignments (both group and individual), classroom presentations, group work and observation.
