Designed for students with an interest in aquatic ecosystems, the course introduces the biological and physical processes that occur in both marine and freshwater systems.
There is an emphasis on the continuity of these environments across the transition from freshwater to estuarine and into marine systems. Students develop skills that are required to understand and manage such systems.
Course Learning Outcomes
Apply broad discipline knowledge to a range of theoretical and practical marine and/or freshwater science situations.
Apply ecological and digital literacies to access, evaluate and synthesize relevant information from multiple sources.
Communicate marine and freshwater science knowledge and values in professional and public contexts.

Demonstrate autonomy, accountability and judgement for own learning and professional practice.
Think creatively to anticipate challenges and design strategies to address marine or freshwater problems.
Think critically to analyze, interpret complex marine and/or freshwater science problems and devise strategies for their solution.
Work collaboratively and demonstrate initiative to implement social, sustainable, and ethical values, including Indigenous cultural competence.
Work Experience option
Students have the opportunity to seek a semester long Work Integrated Learning placement with an industry partner relevant to the Marine and Freshwater Biology discipline.
Employment opportunities
Graduates will possess skills that are applicable in a wide range of aquatic science professions in research, industry, and teaching and government agencies.

Applicants must have obtained minimum of 24 points (minimum of 28 points for Law) consisting of aggregate from 3 higher level and 3 subsidiary level. English Language Requirements accepted: Academic IELTS: An overall band score of 6.0, with no individual band less than 6.0; TOEFL: Minimum score of 550, including Test of Written English of 5 or better; TOEFL iBT: Minimum score of 70, with no individual score less than 17; GCE O Levels: Grade C or better; PTE Academic: PTE Academic 52, with no scores less than 50 for courses with a current requirement; University of Cambridge [Cambridge English: Advanced]: Pre-2015: A score between 52 - 57 with no less than 'Borderline' in any element of the test. Post-2015: An overall score of 169, with no individual band less than 169; or a minimum TOEFL score of 550 including TWE of 5.
