The Diploma of Accounting helps students build on their accounting knowledge. This gives them the ability to continue their studies to a higher qualification or entry level position in an accounting support role. Course description In the Diploma of Accounting students learn to prepare corporate reports, manage budgets, prepare tax documentation, apply solutions to a range of often complex problems and analyse and evaluate information from a variety of sources. Course structure To obtain this qualification, students must complete 11 units, including six core and five elective units. The full-time course will be delivered face-to-face in the classroom over four days in one semester of 16-18 weeks duration. Students holding an international student visa are required to study full-time and on campus. The alternative online course is delivery with optional teacher led on-campus sessions. Two of the elective units are prerequisite units carried forward from the Certificate IV in Accounting. Career opportunities This qualification reflects accounting job roles in financial services and other industries requiring accounting support functions, including reporting on business performance, preparing financial reports and statements, maintaining internal control systems, preparing tax returns and providing management accounting information. Aims and objectives This qualification builds on fundamental accounting knowledge to enable students to pursue a career in an accounting support role or continue their studies to a higher level. Students gain knowledge in internal control procedures, providing management accounting information, preparing tax documentation, corporate reporting and budget forecasting. On successful completion of this course, students should have a greater understanding of the operational activities performed in an accounting office.
