USQ’s Master of Education (Special Education) extends your specialist knowledge, experience and skills working with students with learning difficulties. You will have the opportunity to study in the areas of behavior management, Autism Spectrum Disorder and teaching students with high support needs.
Study flexibility
If you are not sure whether you would like to complete an entire Master’s degree, apply to study USQ’s Graduate Certificate of Education, Graduate Diploma of Education (Commonwealth Supported Place) or Graduate Diploma of Education (Full Fee Paying) and take the credit from your studies to the Master of Education if you decide to continue studying.
Develop research skills
A significant component of your studies will be research courses designed to expand your understanding of the role of education in society, and the challenges faced by educators in rapidly changing, multicultural communities. Choose between an Applied Research or Advanced Research project.
The Applied Research has a practical emphasis on innovative and creative approaches to solving current issues in the education environment. You can use your own experiences as a backdrop to your studies and develop a research project based on your current workplace.
Career outcomes
Do you want to work in a special school or in a regular classroom? With groups of students or on an individual basis? Graduates of the Master of Education (Special Education) will have the skills to lead educators successfully in special education or the disabilities sector. Career opportunities also exist in training related fields, human services and community-based government organizations.

Students must have Bachelor degree with 1st class/2nd class (2A) honours or a master’s degree with a significant research component or other postgraduate qualifications. English language requirements: IELTS (Academic only) - 6.5 (or better)(no component lower than 6.0); TOEFL (paper based) - 570 (with a minimum Test of Written English score TWE 5); TOEFL (electronic or computer based) - 230 (with an essay rating of at least 5); TOEFL (internet based) - 90 (or better) (with 20 minimum in all bands); Pearson (PTE Academic) - 58 (or better) (with no communicative score less than 58); Cambridge English Scale Scores for FCE, CAE and CPE3 - Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) or Proficiency (CPE) with a score of 176 or above. No less than 169 in each skill.

Approved bachelor degree, or equivalent, in education.
Candidates with a bachelor degree, or equivalent, in a non-related discipline may be eligible for entry into USQ’s Graduate Certificate of Education. Upon completion and achievement of a minimum GPA of 4.0, they may apply for entry into the Master of Education.
