The Bachelor of Education provides you the expert pedagogical knowledge and classroom practice to succeed as an educator in the early childhood and primary setting. The learning opportunity The Bachelor of Education (Early Years) offers a unique learning opportunity, with the chance for you to participate in an innovative and applied learning program through a mix of on-campus learning and professional placement. Throughout the course, you will work in preschool, primary and community settings to complete at least 120 days of supervised teaching practice. You will also have the opportunity to experience our unique internal placement program, involving preschool and primary school students authentically learning in a state of the art on-campus observation facility. Professional Recognition This initial teacher education degree is accredited by the Tertiary Educational Quality Standards Agency (TEQSA) and is approved by the VIT against the National Graduate Teacher standards for the purposes of teacher registration in Victoria and the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA). Graduates intending to apply for teacher registration in Victoria should carefully check all VIT requirements relating to this process. Units of Study Credit points are a basic measure of student workload. All subjects are given a credit point value. Most subjects at Melbourne Polytechnic are 12 credit points. A normal full-time annual workload is 96 credit points. The academic year is divided into two main semesters; full-time students usually enrol in 48 credit points each semester, part time students usually enrol in 24 credit points each semester or less. Career Pathways By enrolling in the Bachelor of Education (Early Years), you are able to become a qualified kindergarten and primary teacher; your choice would enable you to apply for dual registration (Kindergarten and Primary) with the VIT (Victorian Institute of Teaching). This qualification will allow you to apply for dual registration (Kindergarten and Primary) with the VIT (Victorian Institute of Teaching). You can also work as an educator (room leader) in a long day care children’s service or as a co-educator (assistant) in kindergarten.
