If you have a passion for all the aspects of theatre and live production then our Diploma of Live Production and Technical Services is for you. Our course teaches you what you need to know about lighting, stage/event management, visions systems and theatre sound.
Learn your craft from the best
In this very hands-on course, you will have extensive training in all technical aspects of the theatre industry. This includes production, theatre lighting, theatre sound, stage and event management, vision systems and set and props design and construction.
Throughout the year, you will collaborate with other student cohorts in developing a number of large-scale theatre productions. These productions are either group devised, installations or from chosen scripts.
Recognition of Prior Learning
You can seek RPL where your work or qualifications of an advanced and related nature have been undertaken. Academic Credit is granted on a case-by-case basis, according to our Academic Credit policy and associated procedures. Applications for Academic Credit will be assessed by relevant Melbourne Polytechnic academics and where appropriate, industry experts.

Assessment Methods
A combination of face to face, written work, project work and industry based learning and assessment will be offered to the candidates. The course is designed to engage students in hands on project work, which may be delivered on campus in the related industry, or a combination of both. Consequently, assessments will vary throughout the course. As required by the training package, employability skills will form part of the assessment of the qualification and will include communication, teamwork, problem solving, initiative and enterprise, planning and organizing, self-management, learning and technology. It is anticipated that learning activities and assessments will involve working with students and staff from other program areas across vocational training and higher education programs.

Career Pathways
On successful completion of the Diploma of Live Production and Technical Services you will be suitably qualified to apply for positions as a technician in theatre lighting, theatre sound and using audio visual systems. You will also be suitably trained to enter stage management and event management roles in small or large festivals and events.
