The Master of Teaching English as a Second Language is a 72-unit coursework program offered by the College of Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences. This course can also be studied by external option. The external option is not available for all topics. This degree aims to: develop disciplinary knowledge in the field of Second Language acquisition develop specific knowledge in the area of English as a Second Language (ESOL) critique Second Language teaching methodologies comprehend the interaction between culture and language investigate the effect of English as a Global Language identify research trends in the field of Teaching English as a Second Language (TESOL). Learning outcomes On completion of this course students will be able to: analyse critically current theories in second language acquisition review and analyse classroom issues related to Teaching English as a Second Language demonstrate an understanding of second language teaching methodologies, including the ability to communicate them to a range of audiences implement second language teaching methodologies to generate approaches to a range of classroom teaching scenarios examine current literature in the field of education with an informed, critical perspective evaluate and apply knowledge from a broad range of educational areas to TESOL theory and practice demonstrate mastery in the knowledge and skills of TESOL research.
