Why study Archaeology?
Archaeology is about the origins and evolution of human existence. It's at the heart of who we are, what we do and why we do it.
Investigate how civilizations developed in Egypt and the Middle East, Asia, Mesoamerica and Western Europe; and explore Australian Indigenous and historical archaeology.
Use archaeological techniques and theories to learn about the evolution of modern people and their social and technical developments. Take part in excavations and excursions to archaeological sites from your very first semester.
Where can Archaeology take me?
Archaeology can take you far and wide - from Cambodia to Croatia, Greece to Guatemala, Mexico to Morocco. Our graduates are employed on projects all around the world including many sites in our own backyard.
Most archaeologists in Australia work for government departments, universities, museums, consulting firms, resource corporations or Aboriginal Land Councils.
Our graduates work as archaeologists, heritage managers, conservation officers, museum curators, academics, researchers and private consultants.
Further study options
If you're an undergraduate with a strong academic record, the Honours program awaits. Your Honours year will give you the chance to combine coursework and research in a specialized area of study.
Complete the Honours program with high grades to qualify for entry into the Masters by Research or PhD program.

English Language Requirements: IELTS (Academic): Overall score of 6.0 with no band less than 6.0; TOEFL Paper-based Test - Overall score of 550 with 5 or better in TWE (Test of Written English); TOEFL Internet based (iBT): Overall 64 with 13 in Reading, 12 in Listening, 18 in Speaking and 21 in Writing, Pearson Test of English (Academic) (PTE): Overall score of 50 with no communicative skill score less than 50, Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE): 169 with no less than 169 in any component, Cambridge Certificate of Proficiency in English (CPE): 169 with no less than 169 in any component.
国际学生入学条件
Entry into a Bachelor Degree program at La Trobe University requires completion of Australian Year 12 with certain grade. Students from other countries should have country specific requirements equivalent to Australia.
Subject prerequisites
Units 3 and 4: a study score of at least 25 in English (EAL) or 20 in any other English.
