As we adapt to global changes that impact our cities, planning has never been more critical. The Master of Urban Planning addresses how we cope with challenging population and environmental issues such as climate change, inequality, community health and safety, and the emergence of global city-regions. With a focus on Australian and international policy, you'll learn how to positively influence environmental sustainability, economic resilience and social equity in cities throughout the world. Examine the interaction between people, the places they live and the policies that help shape economically viable, socially just, environmentally sustainable, safe and healthy communities. You will develop critical thinking skills and the ability to respond creatively to urban planning issues. You will examine cities in an international comparative context, gaining knowledge you can apply in your career, wherever you end up. Learn about the frameworks and operations of different planning systems and debates Explore different perspectives on urban problems, policies, planning and practices Plan in relation to critical issues such as housing, energy, health, strategy, transport, economy and disaster recovery Understand the way planning decisions impact real-world situations Become a sought-after practitioner and researcher of urban planning in Australia and internationally Choose electives to enable you to develop your intellectual and career interests Participate in an environment where theoretical and applied planning knowledge is developed Engage with key contemporary planning ideals, ethics and debates, including debates surrounding the creation of equitable and sustainable human settlements Access research opportunities allowing you to undertake supervised and self-directed learning. To complete the Master of Urban Planning you will undertake: Eight core subjects (100 points): Core subjects provide you with the knowledge and technical skills needed to generate, evaluate, and implement plans as well as insight into economic and environmental changes in cities. Four specialisation subjects (50 points) Optional Capstone Subjects (25 points). You must complete either MSD Minor thesis or MUP Studio Two electives (25 points): You choose two electives from other disciplines at the Melbourne School of Design or other faculties in subjects such as such as economics, engineering, public health, development studies, social work and law. Planners work with many other disciplines in practice and these subjects prepare you to work effectively in industry. Specialise your skills Develop expertise in an area of specialisation to prepare yourself for a focused career. As well as core courses, electives and a research thesis, you will complete four courses in one of the following areas: International development planning Urban development and planning Social and community planning Environmental planning Career Outcomes Many Master of Urban Planning graduates enter the public sector and work in government departments and agencies, or for local councils and regions. The private sector and civil society offer an increasing range of employment opportunities, including urban planning and design, environmental and transport planning consultancies, property development companies, and housing and community advocacy. There are also opportunities in tertiary education and research.

为来自中国的学生设计 Graduate coursework programs normally require the satisfactory completion of an undergraduate degree either from the University of Melbourne, another Australian institution, or a university in another country. English language requirements: IELTS (academic English Only) - 7.0 overall, with written 7 and no band less than 6.0; TOEFL (paper-based test) - 600 + TWE 5.0; TOEFL (internet-based test) - 94 + (Writing 27; Speaking 18; Reading 13; Listening 13); Pearson Test of English (Academic) - 65 + written communicative skill of 65 and no other communicative skill below 50; Cambridge English: Advanced/ Certificate of Advanced English (CAE) - 185 + no less than 185 in Writing and 169 in each other skill. 国际学生入学条件 A minimum three-year undergraduate degree with a weighted average of at least 65%, or equivalent to the University of Melbourne grading scheme; Submission of a personal statement of up to 500 words outlining relevant prior study and work experience, and motivation to undertake the program.
