Become a leader in the agrifood industry Massey’s agricultural economics major will enable you to become a sought-after agribusiness professional who can analyse company and market behaviours, structures, the competition and regulatory issues. What will you learn? You will learn what works and what doesn’t in agribusiness and why. What influences consumer demand and how to predict it. In the Bachelor of AgriCommerce (Agricultural Economics) you’ll gain the applied economics and agribusiness skills and competencies necessary to analyse markets and policy regulations. For example, you’ll find out how to price fresh milk, learn about the supply and demand of wine, international trade partnerships and incentives and the regulations required to protect New Zealand’s clean green image. Agricultural economics is the study of applied economics in relation to optimising the production and distribution of food. This has applications for farmers, the industry and broader government. Practical experience while you study During your degree you will gain a huge amount of practical experience. This experience will include at least 26 weeks of paid employment undertaken in agriculture and related sectors. That will give you an advantage with potential employers. Therefore, you'll have the knowledge and foundation skills for several career paths. Potential careers from the agricultural economics major include Rural banking Food processing expertise Government policy advisor/maker Bank economist Banking Working for a research institute Structure At Massey a credit system is used for our degrees. To complete a Bachelor of AgriCommerce the following is required. Total of 360 credits completed. That’s 24 courses of 15 credits each Up to 165 credits (11 courses) may be completed at 100-level At least 195 credits (13 courses) completed above first year. Of these 75 credits or more must be from 300-level courses 26 weeks of relevant practical work and two associated reports This course is also offered by the School of Agriculture and Environment.

English Language Requirements: IELTS score of 5.0 (no band less than 5.0). TOEFL iBT score of 61 overall (min 17 in Reading & Writing). PTE Academic score of 36 Overall (min 36 in communicative skills).
