When you complete the Diploma of Community Services, you’ll be able to work for community services organisations, government departments and not-for-profit organisations. 480 hours placement is required across two years. You’ll gain skills and knowledge in areas such as community development, psychology, sociology, case management, education, counselling, family violence, child protection, human rights and advocacy, manage diversity and communication. Experienced teachers, who are experts in the field, will guide you through the program, which combines theory and practical experience. It also includes two supervised work placements in relevant community service settings. This nationally recognised qualification may lead to employment in roles such as youth worker, case manager, child protection worker, family case worker, or domestic violence worker. These roles may involve supervision of other staff and volunteers. The course, which is accredited by the Australian Community Workers Association, can be completed part time over four years or full time over two years.
